Audia Flight - Flight Phono Preamplifier

Audia Flight Phono: Precision in Vinyl Playback

After two years of dedicated development, Audia Flight proudly presents its latest addition: the new Phono preamplifier. This meticulous creation boasts a range of features, including a dedicated power supply, input preamplifier boards, high gain (reaching up to 74dB in its maximum selection), and exceptionally low noise levels. Notably, the separate power supply was chosen to enhance the preamp's shielding while eliminating vibrations and resonance from the transformers.

Power Supply Excellence:

To achieve the desired performance, an impeccably designed power supply is essential. In the Audia Phono preamp, the power supply is entirely separate from the preamp chassis. A robust 50VA toroidal transformer powers the analog stages and accommodates the first power supply (+/- 38V). Within the separate power supply unit, a 15VA toroidal transformer supplies the relays and logic control, with a memory to store user selections. To seamlessly receive commands from the preamp chassis buttons without electrical connections, multiple opto-isolators are employed.

Precision in Preamp Design:

The Audia Phono preamp embodies the current feedback philosophy, with distinct input preamp boards tailored for MM or MC cartridges, acknowledging their unique electrical characteristics.

  • The MC input preamp board delivers a 60dB gain and features a low-noise, ultra-low offset output, utilizing a transistor input stage.
  • The MM input preamp board offers a 40dB gain, employing a differential transistor input stage with minimal noise and offset output.

Both input boards allow for precise impedance selection, situated close to the input stage and facilitated by professional gold jumpers. Following the initial gain stage, a gold contact relay-based input selector is employed. The RIAA filter, configured passively, incorporates 1% polypropylene and polystyrene capacitors. An optional subsonic IEC filter can be selected at this point.

The second gain output stage introduces Audia Flight's latest current feedback module, the MCF NG1, with noise reduction and enhanced speed. Gain adjustment, ranging from 24dB to 34dB, is possible within the second gain stage, which also includes a balanced XLR output.

Enhanced Functionality:

The Audia Phono preamp includes a mono selector, a valuable addition for playing mono records with a stereo cartridge. This selector combines the left and right channels, mimicking the performance of a mono cartridge for superior sound quality.

The preamp chassis integrates low-noise MOSFET power supplies (+/-28V) and an additional power supply (+/-15V), resulting in a total of six power supplies. The preamp board is equipped with offset protection, safeguarding the unit and connected components in the event of DC offset voltage on the output.

Customers have the flexibility to order the Audia Phono preamp with their desired input gain board (MM and MC, two MM inputs, or two MC inputs). Furthermore, it is possible to switch the input gain board of the second input at a later stage.

Exceptional Performance, Crafted Precision:

Audia Flight's Phono preamplifier is a testament to precision engineering and unwavering dedication to audio quality. Its exceptional design and versatility make it a perfect choice for vinyl enthusiasts seeking the ultimate in playback precision.
