Bowers & Wilkins - 802 D4 - Tower Speakers

Bowers & Wilkins - 802 D4 - Tower Speakers

Bowers & Wilkins was founded in Worthing, England in 1966 by John Bowers, a man who believed that the purpose of a loudspeaker was simply to reproduce recorded music as faithfully as possible, and that achieving this required investment in research rather than compromise in manufacturing. That belief produced, over subsequent decades, a series of loudspeaker innovations — the first practical diamond tweeter, the decoupled tweeter housing, the matrix-braced cabinet — that have become reference technologies in the industry. The 800 Series, introduced in the 1970s and continuously refined since, is the direct expression of that research: the speaker that Abbey Road Studios and countless other world-class recording facilities trust to hear what they are actually recording.

ENGINEERING PHILOSOPHY

The 800 Series Diamond range incorporates technologies developed without regard to cost: a tweeter dome machined from pure diamond, chosen because its extreme stiffness pushes resonance far beyond the audible range; a Continuum midrange cone developed over years of materials research to eliminate the 'cone cry' coloration present in all conventional cone materials; and a Biomimetic Suspension system that reduces non-linear distortion at low frequencies. The turbine head tweeter enclosure decouples the tweeter from the cabinet entirely, so that cabinet vibration — however small — cannot influence the treble reproduction. These are not marketing descriptions. They are engineering solutions to problems that affect every loudspeaker, implemented at a level of investment that only a company of B&W;'s scale can sustain.

WHY THE AUDIO TAILOR CARRIES BOWERS & WILKINS 800 SERIES

We carry Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series because it represents one of the most rigorously developed and extensively validated loudspeaker designs in the world. It is the benchmark against which every other speaker in our range is assessed — and it earns that position every time.

Introducing the 802 D4: Performance Meets Affordability

Built to the same exacting standards as the flagship 801 D4, the 802 D4 offers much of its sibling’s performance, including the innovative Turbine™ Head enclosure for the midrange drive unit, at a more accessible price.

Absolute Elegance

The 802 D4’s sleek proportions and exquisite painted or real-wood-veneer finishes make it a sophisticated addition to any living room, without compromising performance. Ideal for reference-grade stereo listening and home theater applications.

802 D4 Highlights

Aerofoil™ Bass Cone

Our Aerofoil™ bass cone technology combines low mass with high stiffness, thanks to a carbon-fiber skin and variable-profile foam core. Now enhanced with a foam Anti-Resonance Plug, it delivers lower distortion and cleaner bass.

Aluminum Top-Plate

Every stereo model in the new 800 Series Diamond™ range features an upgraded cabinet with an all-new aluminum top-plate. This also serves as a mounting point for luxurious Leather by Connolly trim, available in black for dark cabinets and light grey for lighter finishes.

Decoupled Midrange Assembly

The 802 D4, like its tower speaker siblings, features a dedicated midrange cone utilizing three key Bowers & Wilkins technologies: the Continuum™ cone, Biomimetic Suspension, and midrange decoupling, ensuring minimal interference from the bass drivers.

The Science of Sound

Innovation drives our design process. We continuously question, examine, understand, and evolve. Through advanced computer modeling, we reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker design. Discover the technologies that make the 800 Series Diamond unique.

One of Our Best

The 802 D4 offers a thrilling blend of performance and style that sets it apart. Only the flagship 801 D4, with its 250mm (10-in) bass cones and more substantial low-frequency enclosure, can surpass it.

801 D4: The Pinnacle of Innovation

For four decades, the 801 series has epitomized cutting-edge loudspeaker technology. The 801 D4, our latest model, showcases our newest advancements and most original thinking, solidifying its iconic status.

Unmatched Precision: The Ultimate Matrix™ Bracing

The 801 D4 features our most advanced Matrix™ bracing system yet. With interlocking panels that reinforce the cabinet walls internally, this sophisticated aluminum bracing minimizes resonance, delivering a remarkably authentic soundstage.

Revolutionary Design: The Turbine™ Head

Our all-aluminum Turbine™ Head encases the Continuum midrange cone in a rigid, critically damped enclosure, eliminating unwanted resonances. Decoupled from both the bass enclosure and the tweeter body, it achieves unparalleled midrange clarity.

Breakthrough Performance: Biomimetic Suspension

Innovation thrives on unconventional thinking. The new Biomimetic Suspension in the 801 D4 transforms midrange performance by drastically reducing unwanted air pressure and coloration from traditional fabric spiders, resulting in stunning midrange transparency.

The Science of Sound: The 801 D4

Innovation is the heartbeat of our design process. Through rigorous questioning, examination, and understanding, we evolve our loudspeakers using advanced computer modeling to reimagine every design aspect. Discover the technologies that make the 800 Series Diamond exceptional.

Flagship Excellence: The State of Our Art

The 801 D4 stands as the pinnacle of the new 800 Series Diamond range, embodying a no-compromise design philosophy. Integrating our most advanced technologies and premium crossover components, the 801 D4 sets a new standard for reference-quality loudspeakers, destined to be the benchmark for years to come.
