Bowers & Wilkins - 803 D4 - Tower Speakers

Bowers & Wilkins - 803 D4 - Tower Speakers

Bowers & Wilkins was founded in Worthing, England in 1966 by John Bowers, a man who believed that the purpose of a loudspeaker was simply to reproduce recorded music as faithfully as possible, and that achieving this required investment in research rather than compromise in manufacturing. That belief produced, over subsequent decades, a series of loudspeaker innovations — the first practical diamond tweeter, the decoupled tweeter housing, the matrix-braced cabinet — that have become reference technologies in the industry. The 800 Series, introduced in the 1970s and continuously refined since, is the direct expression of that research: the speaker that Abbey Road Studios and countless other world-class recording facilities trust to hear what they are actually recording.

ENGINEERING PHILOSOPHY

The 800 Series Diamond range incorporates technologies developed without regard to cost: a tweeter dome machined from pure diamond, chosen because its extreme stiffness pushes resonance far beyond the audible range; a Continuum midrange cone developed over years of materials research to eliminate the 'cone cry' coloration present in all conventional cone materials; and a Biomimetic Suspension system that reduces non-linear distortion at low frequencies. The turbine head tweeter enclosure decouples the tweeter from the cabinet entirely, so that cabinet vibration — however small — cannot influence the treble reproduction. These are not marketing descriptions. They are engineering solutions to problems that affect every loudspeaker, implemented at a level of investment that only a company of B&W;'s scale can sustain.

WHY THE AUDIO TAILOR CARRIES BOWERS & WILKINS 800 SERIES

We carry Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series because it represents one of the most rigorously developed and extensively validated loudspeaker designs in the world. It is the benchmark against which every other speaker in our range is assessed — and it earns that position every time.

Revered by Experts:

  • Gentlemen's Journal: "There are few speakers more revered throughout the music industry than the volume-pumping, chicly-designed 800 Series Diamond range. Abbey Road recording studios use them, which should tell you all you need to know."
  • AVForums: "Simply outstanding integration, detail, and space."

Why the 803 D4 Stands Out

Compact Yet Powerful: The 803 D4 may be smaller than the 801 D4 or 802 D4, but it’s packed with innovative technology, including a unique three-box construction. The 130mm (5-in) midrange cone is isolated from bass cone impact, thanks to the advanced Turbine Head enclosure.

Reverse Wrap Cabinet: Our cabinets are crafted from continuous curved wood sections, positioning the drive units at the curvature's heart. This design provides a stiffer, more inert structure that minimizes mechanical resonances and ensures superior sound dispersion.

Enhanced Matrix™ Bracing: The Matrix bracing system uses interlocking panels to reinforce the cabinet walls in all directions, reducing resonance and delivering a more realistic soundstage. The 803 D4’s Matrix assembly is our finest, ensuring optimal scale, power, and clarity.

Aluminium Bass Pods: The 803 D4 features two Aerofoil™ bass cones mounted in solid aluminium pods, clamped to the stiffest part of its curved cabinet. These single-piece metal structures offer perfect mechanical support for the powerful bass cones.

Cutting-Edge Audio Technology

Innovation drives our every move. We constantly question, examine, understand, and evolve our designs using computer modelling to reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker construction. Discover more about the technologies that make the 800 Series Diamond exceptional here.

Step Up for More Power: The 803 D4

The 803 D4 includes all the iconic features of the 800 Series Diamond range, including the renowned headed enclosure. While more compact than its siblings, stepping up to the 802 D4 offers larger 200mm (8-in) bass cones and a 150mm (6-in) midrange driver for even greater power and performance.

Elevate your audio experience with the compact yet powerful 803 D4 loudspeaker. Choose your finish and discover why industry experts and top recording studios trust the 800 Series Diamond range.
