Bowers & Wilkins - 804 D4 - Tower Speakers

Bowers & Wilkins - 804 D4 - Tower Speakers

Bowers & Wilkins was founded in Worthing, England in 1966 by John Bowers, a man who believed that the purpose of a loudspeaker was simply to reproduce recorded music as faithfully as possible, and that achieving this required investment in research rather than compromise in manufacturing. That belief produced, over subsequent decades, a series of loudspeaker innovations — the first practical diamond tweeter, the decoupled tweeter housing, the matrix-braced cabinet — that have become reference technologies in the industry. The 800 Series, introduced in the 1970s and continuously refined since, is the direct expression of that research: the speaker that Abbey Road Studios and countless other world-class recording facilities trust to hear what they are actually recording.

ENGINEERING PHILOSOPHY

The 800 Series Diamond range incorporates technologies developed without regard to cost: a tweeter dome machined from pure diamond, chosen because its extreme stiffness pushes resonance far beyond the audible range; a Continuum midrange cone developed over years of materials research to eliminate the 'cone cry' coloration present in all conventional cone materials; and a Biomimetic Suspension system that reduces non-linear distortion at low frequencies. The turbine head tweeter enclosure decouples the tweeter from the cabinet entirely, so that cabinet vibration — however small — cannot influence the treble reproduction. These are not marketing descriptions. They are engineering solutions to problems that affect every loudspeaker, implemented at a level of investment that only a company of B&W;'s scale can sustain.

WHY THE AUDIO TAILOR CARRIES BOWERS & WILKINS 800 SERIES

We carry Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series because it represents one of the most rigorously developed and extensively validated loudspeaker designs in the world. It is the benchmark against which every other speaker in our range is assessed — and it earns that position every time.

804 D4: The Perfect Blend of Performance and Aesthetics

Why the 804 D4 Stands Out

Classic Quality: While the 804 D4 may have a more conventional appearance compared to other tower speakers in the 800 Series Diamond range, it’s equally sophisticated. The new Reverse-Wrap cabinet design is a mechanical and acoustic revolution, and the updated plinth ensures a rock-solid, accurate bass response.

Aluminium Top-Plate: All stereo models in the new 800 Series Diamond range, including the 804 D4, feature a significantly upgraded cabinet with an all-new aluminium top-plate. This provides an ideal mounting point for the luxurious Leather by Connolly trim, with black leather for dark cabinets and light grey for lighter finishes.

Reverse-Wrap Cabinet: The 804 D4 cabinet is crafted from a continuous curved section of wood, positioning the drive units at the curvature's heart. This design minimizes mechanical resonances and enhances sound dispersion, delivering superior audio quality.

Aluminium Plinth: A great speaker requires a solid foundation. The new 804 D4 features a downward-firing Flowport that exits onto a solid aluminium plinth with a steel constrained layer damping sheet, controlling unwanted resonance. Upgraded spikes provide maximum stability and durability.

Cutting-Edge Audio Technology

Innovation is central to our philosophy. We continuously question, examine, understand, and evolve our designs using computer modelling to reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker construction. Discover more about the technologies that make the 800 Series Diamond exceptional here.

Elevate your audio experience with the 804 D4, blending superior performance with classic aesthetics. Choose your finish and find out why this speaker is trusted by audio experts and discerning listeners alike.
