Bowers & Wilkins - 805 D4 - Bookshelf Speakers
Bowers & Wilkins was founded in Worthing, England in 1966 by John Bowers, a man who believed that the purpose of a loudspeaker was simply to reproduce recorded music as faithfully as possible, and that achieving this required investment in research rather than compromise in manufacturing. That belief produced, over subsequent decades, a series of loudspeaker innovations — the first practical diamond tweeter, the decoupled tweeter housing, the matrix-braced cabinet — that have become reference technologies in the industry. The 800 Series, introduced in the 1970s and continuously refined since, is the direct expression of that research: the speaker that Abbey Road Studios and countless other world-class recording facilities trust to hear what they are actually recording.
ENGINEERING PHILOSOPHY
The 800 Series Diamond range incorporates technologies developed without regard to cost: a tweeter dome machined from pure diamond, chosen because its extreme stiffness pushes resonance far beyond the audible range; a Continuum midrange cone developed over years of materials research to eliminate the 'cone cry' coloration present in all conventional cone materials; and a Biomimetic Suspension system that reduces non-linear distortion at low frequencies. The turbine head tweeter enclosure decouples the tweeter from the cabinet entirely, so that cabinet vibration — however small — cannot influence the treble reproduction. These are not marketing descriptions. They are engineering solutions to problems that affect every loudspeaker, implemented at a level of investment that only a company of B&W;'s scale can sustain.
WHY THE AUDIO TAILOR CARRIES BOWERS & WILKINS 800 SERIES
We carry Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series because it represents one of the most rigorously developed and extensively validated loudspeaker designs in the world. It is the benchmark against which every other speaker in our range is assessed — and it earns that position every time.

805 D4: The Compact Powerhouse in Stand-Mount Loudspeakers
The 805 D4 stand-mount loudspeaker is the most compact model in the prestigious 800 Series Diamond range, yet it’s loaded with advanced technologies, including the Diamond Dome tweeter and Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top. *Stand(s) not included.
Key Features
Little Diamond: Although the 805 D4 is smaller than its tower speaker siblings, it delivers powerful performance. Its meticulously crafted Reverse-Wrap cabinet, stiff aluminum bass pods, and 165mm (6.5-in) Continuum™ mid-bass cone provide exceptional bass extension and scale for a compact speaker.
Diamond Dome Tweeter: A crowning achievement over the past two decades, the Diamond Dome tweeter combines low mass, exceptional stiffness, and outstanding accuracy. Despite fifteen years of innovation, we haven’t found a better tweeter dome technology.
Solid Body Tweeter Assembly: Our latest Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing features an elongated form with a longer tube-loading system, delivering a more open and free high-frequency sound. Milled from a single solid block of aluminum, this decoupled housing better resists resonance.
Rear-Mounted Crossover: The new reverse-wrap orientation of the 805 D4 cabinet allows us to place sensitive crossover components in a dedicated space within the cabinet, enhancing both performance and serviceability. We’ve also upgraded the speaker terminals for superior connectivity.
The Science of Sound
Innovation drives everything we do. We constantly question, examine, understand, and evolve our designs using computer modelling to reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker construction. Discover the technologies that make the 800 Series Diamond so exceptional here.
Why Upgrade to 804 D4?
Go Large: Stepping up from the 805 D4 to the 804 D4 offers significant benefits:
- Three-Way Speaker: The 804 D4 features twin 165mm (6.5-in) Aerofoil™ bass cones, enhancing power and scale.
- Dedicated Midrange Cone: As a three-way speaker, the 804 D4 includes a dedicated midrange cone, providing more accurate reproduction of voices and details.
